Dr. Rajiv Sharma
|Dr. Rajiv Sharma has a multifaceted career spanning more than 32 years of conceptualizing, implementing and monitoring programs in the science & technology arena through various assignments during his tenure at the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India. He is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur wherein he did his doctoral work on mathematical modelling of physiological fluid systems and graduated in 1987.
He has travelled extensively across the globe for developingbilateral S&T cooperation programs with France, Israel, Japan and the United States, as well as with African and Nordic countries. These efforts have led to the execution of a large number of bilateral and multilateral scientific activities such as research projects, workshops, training schools, fellowships and access to advanced facilities.
He has the distinction of being the first Indian Co-Chair of the Indo-German Science & Technology Centre and of the US-India Science and Technology Endowment Board.
In his capacity as the Executive Director of Indo-US Science & Technology Forum (IUSSTF) for over 4 years, he expanded Indo-US bilateral activities considerably to cover a large number of stakeholders ranging from high school to undergraduatestudents, and also researchers in a spectrum of young entrants to the innovators and entrepreneurs. During his term, two major programmes were initiated viz. the Indo-US Joint Clean Energy Research & Development Centre (JCERDC)and the US-India Science & Technology Endowment Fund for promotion of S&T led innovations and entrepreneurship.
He is also the Scientist ‘G’ & Head of the Technology Missions Division of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India which implements Nano Science & Technology Mission, Clean Energy Research Initiative, Water Technology Initiative and the National Supercomputing Mission.
Dr Rajiv Sharma takes over the additional charge of Secretary, Science & Engineering Research Board w.e.f 01 March 2017.
