Padmavibhushan Dr. Vijay P. Bhatkar

Dr. Vijay P. Bhatkar is an Indian computer scientist, IT leader and educationalist. He is best known as the architect of India’s national initiative in supercomputing where he led the development of Param supercomputers. He is a Maharashtra Bhushan, Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan awardee.Indian computer magazine Dataquest has placed him among the star pioneers who shaped India’s IT industry. He was the founder executive director of C-DAC and is currently working on the developing Exascale supercomputing mission for India.

Bhatkar has been appointed the chancellor of Nalanda University, India since January 2017. Prior to that, he served as the Chairman of Board of Governors of IIT Delhi from 2012 to 2017.

Career & Contributions

Vijay Bhatkar was born on 11 October 1946 in Muramba, Akola district, Maharashtra, India. He received a Ph.D. in Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, in 1972. He obtained his Master of Engineering in from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, in 1968, and Bachelor of Engineering from Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology in 1965.

In 2011, Bhatkar received an honorary doctorate from DY Patil University. In 2014, he was awarded an honorary Ph.D from Gujarat Technological University and a D.Litt. degree from Nagpur University.

Bhatkar is best known as the architect of India’s national initiative in supercomputing where he led the development of Param supercomputers. He developed the first Indian supercomputer, the PARAM 8000, in 1991 and later the PARAM 10000 in 1998. Based on the PARAM series of supercomputers, he built the National Param Supercomputing Facility (NPSF) which is now made available as a grid computing facility through the Garuda grid on the National Knowledge Network (NKN) providing nationwide access to High Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure. Currently, Bhatkar is working on exascale supercomputing via the capability, capacity and infrastructure on National Knowledge Network. He has also worked for the people by taking different ICT initiatives including the development of GIST multilingual technology, MKCL’s computer literacy programme for computers and Education to Home (ETH) for providing coaching on ICT related examinations.

Bhatkar has played significant role in forming several national institutions and research centers including Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), the Electronics Research and Development Centre (ER&DC) in Thiruvananthapuram, Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Kerala (IIITM-K), the ETH Research Laboratory and International Institute of Information Technology (I2IT) in Pune, Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation (MKCL) and the India International Multiversity. He has served as a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee to the government of India, CSIR governing body, IT Task Force, and eGovernance committee chairman of the governments of Maharashtra and Goa. He also serves as the president of Vijnana Bharati.

In January 2017, Dr. Bhatkar was appointed as the Chancellor of the Nalanda University. Prior to that, he has served as the Chairman of Board of the Governors of IIT-Delhi, Chairman of the ETH (Education To Home) Research Lab, Chairman of the Board of Management of Government College of Engineering, Amravati, Founder Chancellor and Chief Mentor of Multiversity, Chancellor of D. Y. Patil University, and National President of Vijnana Bharati, a People’s Science Movement of over 6,000 scientists across India.

Bhatkar has authored and edited over 12 books and 80 technical and research papers and addressed several university convocations, international and national conferences and conventions and public functions.

Vijay Bhatkar received the Padma Bhushan Award in the area of Science and Technology at the Honourable President of India at ceremonial function held on 8 April 2015 at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Prior to that, he received the Padmashri Award in 2000 from the Government of India and the Maharashtra Bhushan Award of 1999-2000, the highest recognition of the Government of Maharashtra. He was the recipient of the Jindal Prize in 2012 for science and technology in the service of society. He received the Saint Jnaneshwar World Peace Prize in 2010 from the World Peace Center for promoting synthesis of science and spirituality in the service of humanity. He was awarded the Sitaram Jindal Foundation Award-2012 for applying science and technology at the grassroots level.

 

 

 

 

Prof. Alok Prakash Mittal

Prof. Alok Prakash Mittal, Professor of Instrumentation and Control Engineering(ICE) at Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT), New Delhi , joined AICTE as Member Secretary on 22nd April 2016.

Prof. Alok Prakash Mittal graduated from Madan Mohan Malviya Engineering College, Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh in Electrical Engineering in 1978, post graduation from Electrical Engineering Department, University of Roorkee in 1980 and Ph.D from IIT, Delhi in 1991. He has guided 14 students for Ph.D and published about 120 research papers in Journals and Conferences.

Prof. Alok Prakash Mittal started his teaching career at REC, Kurukshetra as a Lecturer in 1985, joined REC Hamirpur(Himachal Pradesh) as Assistant Professor in 1987. Dr. A.P. Mittal returned to REC Kurukshetra as Assistant Professor in 1989, joined Chotu Ram State College of Engineering(CRSCE) (present DCRUST), Murthal as Professor of Electrical Engineering in 1997. In 2001, Prof, A.P. Mittal joined NSIT, Delhi as Professor and Head of Instrumentation and Control Engineering Division. Prof. A.P. Mittal worked as Dean, Student’s Welfare, Dean, Industrial Research and Development, Dean, Post Graduate Studies and Research, Dean, Faculty Affairs and Dean Alumni Affairs at various durations from 2003 to 2016.

Prof. A.P. Mittal also worked as Member of Accreditation teams for accreditation of different technical institutes. Prof. A.P. Mittal was Chairman of Admission Committee at NSIT during 2005, 2006, 2010 & 2011. Prof. A.P. Mittal worked as General Chair for IEEE Conference on Power Electronics-2010.

Dr. M.P. Poonia

Dr. M.P. Poonia is specialized in the field of Mechanical Engineering (IC Engines, Gas Dynamics, Ref. & AC), Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development. He is M.Tech (Thermal Engg.) and Ph.D (IC Engines) from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He possesses a vast experience of 30 years. He has published more than 90 research papers in National and International Journals & Conferences and published 10 books and developed 02 Lab Manuals. He has guided number of M.Tech and Ph.D dissertation. Dr. Poonia is the Member of ISTE & Society of Automotive Engineers.

Dr. MP Poonia is presently serving as Vice Chairman, All India Council for Technical Education since 20th January, 2017. Prior to this, he remained as Director, National Institute of Technical Teachers’ Training and Research (NITTTR), Chandigarh for about 4½ years (since 20th July, 2012 to 18th January, 2017). Dr. Poonia is the recipient of Bharat Mata Award conferred by Indian Institute of Oriental Heritage (an International Institute of Oriental Studies and Research, Kolkata) on 16th August, 2014. On behalf of NITTTR, Chandigarh, he received National Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities – 2013 by the Hon’ble President of India on 3rd December, 2013 in New Delhi in recognition of outstanding performance in the field of Best Institution for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in the country.

Dr. Poonia also made significant contribution while serving as a Director, NITTTR, Chandigarh for the growth and development of technical education in the northern states of India and to conduct of sub-regional and in-country programmes in collaboration with Colombo Plan Staff College for Technician Education, Manila, Philippines. Under his able leadership, the institute had to its credit the conduct training programme for Nigeria. He was the member of as many as more than 20 Government/Autonomous Bodies/Universities in the state of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, Delhi and Chandigarh while at NITTTR, Chandigarh. Dr. Poonia emphasized on quality education, good governance, e-learning towards digital India, Go-Green Environment, skill development and assisted to University Grant Commission, National Board of Accreditation, NAAC, Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC) and Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) of India for their academic achievements.

He visited many countries like USA, China, Canada, Thailand, U.K, Singapore, Taiwan, Sri Lanka & Australia.

Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe

Prof. Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe, Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati joined All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) as Chairman on 17th July 2015. Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe graduated from BVB College of Engineering and Technology, Hubli affiliated to Karnataka University, Dharwad, Karnataka in Mechanical Engineering with First Rank and Gold medal in 1980. Subsequently, he obtained Master’s and Doctoral (with UGC Fellowship) degrees from Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore in 1982 and 1989 respectively.

Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe in his illustrious career of 31 years held several important Academic, Research and Administrative positions. He started his career as Scientific Officer, at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 1983 and moved to Tata Consulting Engineers (TCE) as Engineer in the same year. He served as Lecturer and Assistant Professor at North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) from 1987-1988 & again from 1989-1995, before joining IIT Guwahati as Associate Professor in 1995 and has been serving as Professor since 1999. Also, he served as Director, College of Engineering, Pune (CoEP) since 2006 on deputation from IIT, Guwahati prior to joining as AICTE Chairman. As an Academician and Researcher in NERIST and IIT Guwahati, and as an Administrator in the capacity of Director, CoEP, he has taken up several new initiatives for Academic, Curricular & Co-curricular activities, Entrepreneurship, Research and Good Governance.

Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe is presently working as Chairman & Expert Member on various National Level Committees. Some of these include; Chairman, Basic Scientific Research (BSR), Empowered Committee of UGC, SWAYAM Board and Chairman BOG of NIT Itanagar. As a Member/Fellow he is actively involved in the activities of many Professional Bodies/Societies, such as ISTE, ASME, ASEE, ASI, IET, Institution of Engineers (IE).

He was awarded with “Maha-Intrapreneur Award-2011” of Praj Industries, Pune for his Leadership and Innovative abilities in the area of Technology Development and Entrepreneurship initiatives.
